Summertime reminders:
It has been a pleasure working with you and your children this school year. I hope you all have a restful, fun, and safe summer vacation. Here are some last minute reminders to help you all stay safe this summer.
Do tick checks…look inside and behind the ears, along the hairline, at the back of your neck, armpits, groin, legs, behind the knees, and between the toes. Ticks are tiny, so look for new “freckles”. Apply insect spray as appropriate for wooded areas and evening activities.
Monitor sun exposure. If possible avoid being out in the sun from 10a to 4p when the sun is strongest. Apply and reapply sunscreen generously and often, especially if going to the beach or pool, and even if the bottle says it’s waterproof. Wear a hat (wide brimmed is preferred), sunglasses, and a T-shirt.
Stay hydrated! Once you are feeling thirsty, you are already mildly dehydrated. Headaches are often a symptom of being dehydrated. WOW a headache away by drinking a glass of Water, taking ten deep breaths for Oxygen, and Waiting ten minutes.
Stay safe around pools, lakes and the ocean. Make sure children are always being watched by a responsible adult. Keep emergency phone numbers and a phone as well as a first aid kit nearby.
Wear safety equipment, including bicycle helmets, knee and wrist pads as appropriate, for all outdoor sports. Make sure your children do not wander off. Bicycles often provide children with perceived freedoms to travel farther from home than you may have expected.
Remember to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly throughout the summer. Also try to maintain a regular bedtime, especially toward the end of August to allow an easy transition back to the school routine.
See you all next year!!!
